Most people that have a business website use ads to drive traffic to their site. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. Pay per click, Google adwords, Simple ad copy, and a host of others. What can make your ads work for you, are what they say. To make direct mail pieces come alive, they must be readable. Following a few tips can ensure that you get the most out of your ads.

- Firstly, make sure that the size of the letters on the page is easily readable. They have to be large enough so that no one has to use a magnifying glass to read them. By looking at your ad from a distance, you can determine if it is big enough to be read effectively.
- Give your document plenty of blank space between paragraphs. Words that have little or no break in them make for difficult to read copy. In addition, the use of blank space more readily enables the reader to scan through the document if they are in a hurry and are looking for the most salient points of the letter.
- Using a dark typeface against a light background makes the easiest to read documents. Make sure that you test your letter for readability before sending it out. You can write the best ad in the world, but if it can’t be read without a high-powered microscope, it is useless.
- Ads placed on the web for your business should be checked regularly to be sure that they are linking properly to your site, and that they are bringing people to you. If they are not, they need to be changed.
- Having the most effective writing for your ads is crucial. The content should be professional and well written, free of any spelling or typing errors. It should be able to convey everything effectively to get your potential customers wanting to learn more about your business in as few words as possible. It also needs to be unique and well thought out. Generic content will get you nowhere. Hire a professional, and get the job done right.
- Remember that ads are not meant to sell your product; you cannot put your entire spiel on a tiny ad. It is meant to make the person want to know more about what your business can do for them, and how you are different from all the others.
- Giving your customers a limited time offer can be highly successful for short ads. You have to incorporate a call to action into your ads for them to be truly effective.
When you can learn to write ads that presell your product or service, the battle is half over. It is harder than it sounds, but when you know your target audience, and are able to prove in a few words why your product or service is superior to others, you can have greater traffic to your site, and more customers than you could have dreamed possible.
